Getting out and about over the 6 weeks of summer holidays can be expensive for families. The town of Arundel may look expensive with towering castle, antique shops and trendy cafes but there are deals to be had if you do a bit of planning.
Parking can be a premium in Arundel so why not arrive by bus or train? Current £2 bus fares mean you can take the #9 bus from as far away as Worthing, via Littlehampton, to save pounds, petrol and go greener.
Or go all aboard by train! Before you travel, download a National Rail Days Out 2-for-1 admission voucher for WWT Arundel Wetland Centre to try family activities like the postcard trail, pond dipping and boat rides. Nearby Amberly Museum also offers 2-for-1 entry vouchers on the website and so does the in town Arundel Historical Tours. https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/days-out-guide/
WWT Arundel Wetland Centre is also listed on the discounted tickets website Picniq this summer. Receive 15% off admission tickets when you book a visit via the Picniq website https://tickets.picniq.co.uk/
Majestic Arundel Castle in the center of town is a must-see. There are a variety of entry ticket prices to suit all pockets. Tickets for just the garden and Fitzwilliam Chapel are affordable for many families. If you have a Gardner’s World Magazine 2 for 1 card, and can wait until September, you can get 2 for 1 adult entry to the garden.
Stop in at the Arundel Museum after your castle visit and show your castle ticket to receive a discounted entry of £1.50 off an adult £5 ticket. The museum is also the Tourist Information Centre in town and is a great stop to discover what’s on in town.
For some free fun until Sept 1, find the Arundel owls in The Big Hoot art sculpture trail. This event is run by Wild in Art, in support of Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. Pick up a Big Hoot trail map at the Chestnut Tree Charity Shop, the Arundel Library, or the Arundel Museum. Wooo knows where all the owls are hiding.
The amazing Arundel Festival of the Arts opens on Fri 16 August. Free entertainment is dotted around the town some days and The Craft, Vintage, and Brocante Market is on Sat 24 August. Tickets to many theatre productions cost £6 or less. For information on the art, music and theatre shows during the festival visit www.arundelfestival.co.uk or visit their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ArundelFestival . The festival runs through August 26th, the Bank Holiday Monday.
