Description
We are a unique charity providing 'Nursing Care at Home' for local children who have a life-threatening illness or who may be terminally ill. Based in the Chichester area of West Sussex, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust provides:
Children's Community Nurses
Children's Community Nurses administer medication and perform various procedures when the Snowdrop child is at home. They give medical advice, teach parents how to manage their child's medicines and treatments, listen to problems and liaise with other Health Professionals.
Health Care Assistants
Some children benefit from being taken to local parks and attractions by the Health Care Assistants and they really look forward to spending time with them and they develop a wonderful bond. These precious hours give parents a short break during the week which allows time for themselves or for their other children.
Emotional support which is met by the Snowdrop Counsellor
When a child is diagnosed with a life threatening or terminal illness, the Snowdrop Counsellor will visit the family with a Paediatric Community Nurse and explain that he is available to talk to them, when they are ready.
Financial help for families coping with the day-to-day problems of caring for a very sick child is available.
Most mothers and sometimes fathers, have to give up work when their child becomes ill. The added pressure of trying to find the money for petrol to make those all important trips to hospital or being able to feed the family, can be overwhelming. Requests for help are made through the Nurses and Counsellor.
