Description
Sleeping up to four in two king sized beds the property is designed to be relaxed and welcoming, cool in summer and cosy in winter. Originally the home to bakers and servants of the castle estate, the pretty rows of cottages on Bond Street are a quiet retreat away from the bustle of the lively town, full of independent shops, markets and places to visit.
The eclectic interior has a colourful cottage style and is furnished with carefully sourced vintage and antique furniture, the comfiest beds and Sarah’s own favourite homewares. The front door opens onto the sitting room with exposed beams, dining space for four and a corner set aside for cocktails, it’s the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Bespoke furnishings and original artwork give the cottage a unique feel and the red stove in the fireplace guarantees a warm welcome.
The picture above the fireplace is a smart TV so you can watch a movie or streaming service on the flat screen and access the complimentary wifi as standard. Or pack up your tech and enjoy the board games and books in the house.
Duck under the original cottage door and you’ll find the well-equipped rhubarb pink kitchen which reflects Sarah’s early life as a professional chef, the compact space having everything you’ll need to cater during your stay. Prepare breakfast in the under stairs marble topped pantry area and perch in the little garden room and make plans for the day overlooking the the river Arun and the rooftops below. Enjoy the vintage glassware and plates, cutlery and professional grade pans. Tea, coffee, milk and some cooking essentials are provided. Cookery books are on hand and the Deli and stores in Arundel are a walk away, as are countless takeaways if cooking is not what you fancy!
Scale the original cottage staircase carefully! It is narrow and steep but worth the climb to find the sweet master bedroom, papered in William Morris design and furnished with mid-century finds. The king size bed, goose down toppers, luxury duvets, pillows and cushions are all specially selected to ensure a restful nights sleep.
The generous bathroom serves both bedrooms and has both a freestanding bath and separate shower. The bathroom is finished with reclaimed panelling and handmade Moroccan tiles. Bathrobes and lovely towels are provided in each bedroom and premium toiletries are on hand.
The second hideaway bedroom and cloakroom are found in the original bake house across the Twitten* and a couple of steps down into the gated garden. The little wood panelled studio has reclaimed shutters, a super comfy raised king sized bed, cloakroom, sink and everything you need to enjoy a morning cuppa. Underfloor heating, vintage paintings and accessories make this extra room a charming place to stay. The windows open out onto the private garden and distant views of the town.
Outside, the south facing cottage garden has pots and plants, herbs and flowers and plenty of seating to enjoy the south coast sunny weather. Break out the BBQ for relaxed dining and enjoy the Dark Sky Reserve of the national park on the doorstep by stargazing the night away.
The house has been thoughtfully kitted out with a little ironing board, iron and hairdryers and a washing machine too, to help you pack lightly for your stay. We recommend bringing small suitcases or weekend bags as larger bags may be difficult to manoeuvre on the little staircase. Parking can vary in Arundel but if you cannot find a place immediately on Bond Street you can unpack and park in the adjacent streets. We look forward to welcoming you to this individual and unique Home away from Home and are here to help with any requests or questions about the property.
(*Sussex word for a narrow pathway along the gardens: rules state you may only turn right to access the hidden door and passageway on Bond Street)
