The “Make Ford Road Safe” campaign took another step forward in June when Arun District Council nominated it the District’s highest priority route for Active Travel.
A major survey of residents across Arun in November 2020 revealed the Ford Rd route as being the most important in the district, not just by Arundel residents but because people across the district want to get to Arundel in a safer way too.
Thank you to all Arundel residents who took part in the survey, you really helped to get this prioritised!
West Sussex County Council (WSCC), who are responsible for these routes have said they will recognise the work carried out by Arun District Council (ADC) so the route should become a formal part of their Active Travel plan.
Even better news is that Highways England (HE) have agreed to support an application to fund a “Detailed Design Phase” during 2022 if we can help to produce an acceptable business case. To make that happen, a working group consisting of WSCC, ADC and HE and our own Town Council Campaign will hold its first meeting on 8th June to map out how to prepare a successful business case and application for the Detailed Design Phase to take place in 2022.
We have asked the Norfolk Estate to consider how their development can support this project and seek a meeting with Mr Luckin, who owns most of the land adjacent to the Ford Road.
There are still no guarantees that we will get this important pathway, but we are delighted with the progress made and look forward to working together with the councils to make this work.
